Although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) latest easing of restrictions for the fully vaccinated is welcome news, it shifts the burden of mask-wearing policies for workplace safety to each individual employer to determine what is best for their workforce and business.
The CDC’s updated mask-wearing guidelines state that those fully vaccinated can now resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance. Even if vaccinated, people will still be required to wear a mask on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States, and in U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations.
Not all businesses face the same employee safety concerns. Before companies change their mask-wearing policy in accordance with this new CDC guidance, there are several factors to consider:
1) Will you face any health privacy issues when trying to determine what percent of your workforce is already vaccinated?
2) Can this latest guidance be used as an incentive for more employees to get vaccinated?
3) How would implementing this new CDC guidance impact your corporate culture?
4) What would be the best timing to implement any changes to your current COVID-19 safety policies?
